The “Art” of Taking a Break

Whether from work, hobbies or business, taking a break is essential for the mind, body and soul. I feel breaks are super essential and not to be taken lightly. I’m not necessarily saying one has to take a full-on vacation or a 6 month hiatus,  but I’m also not saying stretching for 5 minutes or running errands for an hour is enough.  It’s a personal sweet spot that only you will know.  For one person it might be just a few days, for another it may be a month or two.

For me and my art business, I take my break right after the holiday rush and I take about 4-6 weeks.  During this time, I still make art, but not for business.  I take time for myself and create art for my enjoyment.  I play around with different painting techniques, I take art classes via the internet, I research and get out in nature for inspiration.  You need to get back to exploring and playing in art….for you. Take some classes and increase your education….for you. Reignite that creativity and look for inspiration…for you!  Take this time FOR YOU, not for your customers or business. This much needed time allows you to reset and restore.  Besides preventing burnout, it promotes increased creativity, clearer thinking and motivation, which help provide new ideas, excitement and overall satisfaction.  Who wouldn’t want that?!  So go ahead, take that break!
